30 Days of Biking, Day 18
My day started with the commute to work. I rode west, with the sunrise at my back, but every time the route zigzagged there was a great view of dawn–30 minutes of natural beauty. This morning, high clouds in the east made the sunrise pop.
Then this evening, seven of us met up to ride the east Shunga Trail. We used the Shunga to connect with the Deer Creek Trail and rode all the way to Panaderia Monterrey (a Mexican bakery) for dessert. Some of us hit the taco trucks in the parking lot for a snack, then we all backtracked on the trails to Los Portales for dinner.
Los Portales literally backs up on the Shunga. There’s just a short dirt path from the paved trail to the restaurant parking lot. The iron fence in front works great as a hitching post. The staff pushed together two tables for our group. The waiter asked us if we had ridden the trail to his restaurant, and sported a big grin when we said yes. That made us feel truly welcome. After the meal, on the ride home, the Hokey Spokes on my Specialized Rockhopper entertained people outside enjoying the evening.
