30 Days of Biking, Day 13

Manhattan's linear trailTonight we’re in the Little Apple. For you non-Midwesterners, that’s Manhattan, Kansas, named by antislavery New Yorkers who settled the town during the 1850s.

The Spoked household has traveled here for a family gathering. The relatives weren’t surprised when they saw us pull up with bikes on the rack. After dinner, the husband and I carried our cycles down three flights of stairs (yes, we sleep with them in the hotel room), and rolled out of the parking lot in search of Manhattan’s Linear Trail. We found its eastern terminus without much effort, but decided to keep the ride short because the sun had just set, the surface is crushed limestone, and we were on road bikes.

You can see distant thunderheads in the photo. Oklahoma and southeastern Kansas are getting hit hard. Our part of the state will be in the heart of the vortex tomorrow. I’ve already warned the family that if there’s a tornado warning the Sweetpea is coming into the shelter with me. I’m not joking.

Oh, and for you K-State folks: EMAW!

Passionate about Bicycling

I don't bicycle for a living, but I do bicycle to live. It's that simple.
