A Resolution Regarding Cycling Goals for 2011

Whereas it is good to have goals in life, because goals get your butt off the couch (although . . . obsessing about goals can override the truly important things in life like friends and family),

Whereas Mr. Spoked and I are not planning on any week-long cycling vacations this year, lowering my total mileage by nearly 1K and making it tough to top last year’s mileage,

Whereas but wait a minute–will eliminating cycling vacations really affect my mileage much if I increase short trips around town?

Whereas last year Bike Friendly North Shore (Auckland, New Zealand) commented on my goals, “I wouldn’t lose any sleep about what mileage you’re doing. It’s getting out there and having fun that counts.”

Whereas I can’t really argue with that,

Be it resolved that this cyclist’s goals for 2011 are to reduce the number of short trips by car while:

  1. Increasing the number of daily commutes to & from work by bike,
  2. Riding the bike to the grocery store, not just the farmers market,
  3. Donning non-Spandex clothing more often while cycling, thereby reducing the freak factor and making cycling seem more normal, and
  4. “Getting out there and having fun.”

Wonder what my total mileage will be for 2011 if I do these things?  Stay tuned to find out.

Passionate about Bicycling

I don't bicycle for a living, but I do bicycle to live. It's that simple.
