I Bike, Therefore I Tan

It’s the height of the cycling season, and that means freaky tan lines. They’re not something we’d show off at the pool, but we are kind of proud of them. Any other cyclist anywhere in the world would immediately recognize these as the brand of a fellow biker.
We took the top two photos during a pouring rain on the Shunga Trail, hence the wet skin and goosebumps.
The bottom photograph of bicycling shoes is a substitute for my feet, which I tried to shoot multiple times but the weird blotches never showed up well. Just imagine blobs of tan wherever you see gray patches on the shoes. And a distinct line encircling the ankles where the socks begin. Yeah, it’s strange.
For awhile we had clear chin-strap lines on our cheeks, but those have faded in the past several weeks because we’re riding early in the mornings before the sun gets too high in the sky.
